A change in Israel’s demographics brings back vivid memories for Merle Guttmann when ESRA financed and built a tukul for an arts and crafts center and opened 21 learning centers for newly-arrived immigrants from Ethiopia and the Former Soviet Union.

Zippy Porath was the guest speaker at a recent ESRA Modiin brunch event. She held the audience spell-bound with her stories of what it was like living in Jerusalem at the time of the siege during the War of Independence. Shimon Goodman describes his search for donations and prizes for an ESRA quiz evening hoping to raise money for endangered children. After a few unsuccessful attempts to convince restauranteurs to donate meals, he learns from his experience, and his efforts are crowned with success.

For the past 15 years, since 1998, ESRA has been actively involved in giving supplementary education to immigrant and disadvantaged youth in Netanya in our Right Track Centers. The undoubted success of two Ethiopian sisters who immigrated in 1995. They became participants in ESRA’s Right Track project and subsequently ESRA’s Students Build a Neighborhod program. They in turn are now mentoring and helping other young children to achieve success.
